Members, Sponsors, Exhibitors, Advertises
The Chinese Academy of Sciences, State Forestry Adminstration P.R.China and the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) invite you to Beijing, China 11-16 July 2009 for the International Congress for Conservation Biology (23rd Annual Meeting of the Society for Conservation Biology), it is recognized as the most important global meeting for conservation professionals and students.

About the Society
The Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) is an international professional organization dedicated to advancing the science and practice of conserving the Earth's biological diversity. The Society's membership comprises a wide range of people interested in the conservation and study of biological diversity: resource managers, educators, government and private conservation workers, and students. The Society is a global community with more than 12,000 members world-wide and representatives from over 140 countries. The Society is organized internationally by seven Regional Sections that initiate activities relevant to conservation needs on their continents or in their oceans. With the assistance of the SCB Policy Director, the Society informs policymakers through its Regional Sections, local Chapters, and the policy committee of the SCB Board of Governors. The Society provides many benefits to its community including global and regional conferences, free online access to publications for members in developing countries, and a very popular online job board. SCB also administers the prestigious David H. Smith Conservation Research Fellowship Program, sponsored by the Cedar Tree Foundation.

Publications
SCB is the leading voice for the study of the scientific phenomena that affect biodiversity conservation, publishing the flagship peer-reviewed journal of the field, Conservation Biology. The Society is dedicated to linking conservation science, management, policy, and education with its award-winning magazine, Conservation. In 2008, SCB added to its publications: Conservation Letters, a new, online-only scientific journal publishing empirical and theoretical research with significant implications for the conservation of biological diversity. Affiliated publications include Biological Conservation and Pacific Conservation Biology.

About the Meeting
Since the year 2000, our meeting attendance has increased steadily from 1000 participants to over 1600. SCB Annual Meetings are a forum for addressing conservation challenges. They are the global venue for presenting and discussing new research and developments in conservation science and practice. Most importantly, they connect our global community of conservation professionals and serve as the major networking outlet for anyone interested in conservation. The first Society for Conservation Biology meeting was held in 1988 in Bozeman, Montana, USA. Since then, SCB Annual Meetings have been held in Africa, Australia, Europe, and North and South America. The 23rd Annual Meeting with take place in China in 2009. Plenary sessions are presented by conservation leaders and visionaries - speakers have included Richard Cowling, Gustavo Fonseca, Jeremy Jackson, Jane Lubchenco, Sir Robert May, and Michael Soul¨¦, just to name a few. Each year the meeting features numerous symposia, concurrent sessions, workshops, short courses, and field trips. Past symposia have included such diverse topics as: the population biology of invasive species; global amphibian decline; how to integrate conservation research into policy; indigenous communities and conservation; comparing marine and terrestrial ecosystems-implications for conservation theory and practice; the application of top predator distribution to the design and efficacy of reserves; and, real-world social and economic solutions to preserve biodiversity.

Attendees
Our attendees are concerned with the science and practice of conserving biological diversity. SCB Global Meeting bring together conservation professionals and students from every sector of the field including the biological and social sciences, management, policy, and planning. Attendees work for universities, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, private foundations and organizations, and publications. They are scientists, students, managers, decision-makers, writers, and other conservation professionals from throughout the world.

SCB publications
For additional exposure, SCB publications including Conservation Biology and Conservation magazine reach over 10,000 individual subscribers and 10,000 institutions and accept advertisements that are compatible with the goals of the Society. Visit the following links for more information:
